This beautiful property overlooks a bend on the Merrimack River, and the only thing that rivals the sunsets is the home itself. Our clients came to us looking to completely renovate their backyard, which at the time held an Olympic sized pool, concrete pool deck, and hard to maintain gardens.
Our goal in creating the design was to maximize space for entertaining in a creative way, as well allowing the homeowners to be able to enjoy their backyard on a day to day basis. Bringing the wish-list we were given, and taking inspiration from the traditional New England cape-style home and the client's summer home in Florida, our team is bringing to life a playful design that incorporates different textures & colors, curves, focal points, and so much more. Every feature included within this project was custom designed & built by our team of masons & craftsmen specifically to the client's taste.
This project contains so many gorgeous details!-Custom sourced & built travertine & bluestone patio-14ft long curved outdoor kitchen includes grill, outdoor storage, and kitchen backsplash-Custom built 3-post granite water feature located directly off of the patio-Custom designed landscape lighting to brighten the space at night-65ft long stone veneered wall to give the space depth and retain back the hillside-And the crown jewel is the huge fireplace, woodboxes, & connected sitting benches built directly into the landscape. Pools always make for a great focal point of any outdoor living space, and this project is no different! Our clients came to us with an old vinyl pool that was in need of renovation, a small, cracked concrete pool patio and a desire for a new and refreshed poolscape. The goal for the design was to give the homeowners a clean, open space to make the best use of their pool, deck, and have the style compliment the house. Our designer came back with a simple open patio idea with surrounding gardens of simple, and easily maintained plants. The patio is just under 1400sqft of paver patio that gives several flexible areas of use. Sleek natural stone coping along the pool edge ties nicely into the color expanse of the pavers. You'll notice that a small retaining wall was necessary to hold back the grade of the pool deck from the lower level where the pool equipment is installed. We took the opportunity to create some more interest against the existing deck by building a sitting wall that was also capped using the same natural stone as was used for the pool coping. All across this project there are little details that all work together effortlessly to create a pleasing-to-the-eye outdoor space.

These clients had just moved into their new home, and were looking to create a space where they could relax and entertain. When we first got to site, the side yard where this outdoor space is located was completely empty save for a few piles of stone the previous homeowner had left. The original plan was to give them a simple space to save on cost. However, the homeowners wanted to see what else was possible within their budget. The designs included in the gallery below show the approved concept. This side of the house shouted for a cozy, enclosed garden area. With the space being shaded for 75% of the day a shade garden was the perfect solution. The homeowners also wanted to be able to have fires, so we created this custom firepit and circular patio to allow for entertaining and relaxing around the fire. The end result was a beautiful, hidden away, shade garden filled with wildlife resistant, New England native plants. The paver walkways neatly connect the front and back yards, and firepit area allows for relaxation around the fire year round as it is directly connected off of the great room. The fieldstone wall envelopes around the entire space to retain the hill behind it, and give a very New England statement.

Low maintenance is one of the hot trends today, and for good reason - everyone leads busy lives but everyone deserves an incredible outdoor space! Our clients were looking for exactly that: a low maintenance, interesting, and enjoyable outdoor space to spend time with their family and grandkids. This is a relatively small backyard in Haverhill, MA, so finding a way to incorporate their whole wish list into the space was a challenge! The gem of the yard is the new fiberglass pool, but we wanted the entire area to be just as interesting as the focal point, while not overwhelming it. The paver patio was kept simple utilizing Unilock Beacon Hill slab pavers to create the affect that the space is bigger than it actually is. Taking inspiration from the freeform shape of the pool, our designer created a functional freeform shape for the patio that's complimented by the charcoal colored paver border. Riffing off of the need for low-maintenance the clients sprang for an artificial turf lawn due to the lawn area being small enough to eliminate the need for mowing in the backyard. This small backyard has the ability to host a large party while also maintaining a low maintenance cost.
Still under construction, this project is slated for completion Spring 2022.

Want a look at what happens when you let our designer's ideas run wild? This is what you get! Functional features to make your space fun, bursts of color, and interesting shapes that guide you through your outdoor space! New England is known for its incredible fall colors, but why relegate that to only one time of year when you can have it year round! Our clients wanted to completely redo their backyard to have points of interest at all times of the year. With a difficult grade to overcome with the pool sitting a couple feet higher than the rest of the yard, but still needing area for their kids to enjoy, we created a beautiful garden flanking the fiberglass pool to create the sense that the pool area is separate from the rest of the backyard. One of our favorite features on this project (besides the landscape lighting) is the completely custom boulder jumping rock that intersects the walkway around the pool - this feature has become one of our most requested options for any pool install! Between an eye-catching paver selection, gardens full of colors, landscape lighting to light up the space at night, and plenty of lawn for the kids to play this backyard has it all!

Good things can come in small packages! These clients previously had a patchy grass backyard here, and wanted a place to be able to grill, entertain, and relax. However, this almost 300sqft patio had to be installed in a tight area with only a 3 foot wide fence gate for access to the site. Not only was access challenging, but the previous landscape contractor that built the existing retaining wall had left a bad taste with the homeowners who were apprehensive of hiring after their experience with the previous company.
This project is unique as it is built over a different base system. Utilizing a product called Gatorbase, a geosynthetic foam board, that allows for dramatically less excavation than the typical 6-8in of stone base we were able to create a solution for the homeowners that saved labor & time, which ultimately saved money. For a project that all material had to be brought in and out by hand, this was completed seamlessly by our team in 3 days just in time for the 4th of July!
These folks now have a fantastic outdoor space that can host parties, movie nights, and a renewed faith in contractors!
